My town has had several 'cornerstone' businesses that all are now gone. The biggest of them all were probably the mechanical engineering (building ships), the farms brick and the board industry.
Today in the square stands a statue in memory of those who struggled every day to carry planks to and from the saws. The sawmills were lined up along the longest river Glomma.
I have created my own version in water colors. Not so young, not so handsome!
