IF; Sink

This week's topic is "Sink" suggested by Ives (http://veitstanz.blogspot.com/).

"Basically my wife was immature. I'd be at home in the bath and she'd come in and sink my boats." ~Woody Allen

St. Nicholas' chief patronage is that of sailors and ships—offering safe voyage and protection from storms. Many ports, most notably in Greece, have icons of Nicholas, surrounded by ex-votos of small ships made of silver or carved of wood. Sailors returning safely from sea, place these in gratitude to St. Nicholas for protection received. In some places sailors, instead of wishing one another luck, say, "May St. Nicholas hold the tiller."

Originally Saint Nicolas was the saint who saved sailors from loosing their lives at sea. He prevented the skips to sink!
Therefore I painted the saint in front of a sinking ship just outside the shore where I live.
Both the ship and crew were rescued, but a lot of oil run into the water and soiled the coast.

I also posted my youngest son's Christmas wallpaper for a window decoration for the brandmark SOLO.

Tired of all Christmas shopping the customers can sink down in the armchair and have a break and enjoy 'the fire'. No, it is not so, you must just look, not touch!

The silhouette on the wall to the left is me, four years old, cut in Copenhagen, on the right, me and my husband, cut at Montmatre in Paris many, many years ago!

Great juxtaposition between the painting and the photo. The fireplace looks so inviting with the roaring fire and the logs all ready!
